Some tips from Jérôme on how to take good care of your bike

  • You should service your bike once a year.
    A regular check-up keeps expenses down.
  • When cleaning your bike, you should never use a high pressure washer
  • Tyre pressure:
    Mountain bike 26”: 2.5 bars
    Mountain bike 29”: 2 bars
    Road bike: between 7 and 9 bars or 10% of the cyclist’s weight.
  • Renewing cables and cable-housing: every two years
  • Purging brakes: at least once a year;
    for downhill riders: at least once a month.
  • Running-in for break pads on new bikes:
    all new brake pads and all new brake disks should have a period of progressive use called “running-in”.
    This running-in procedure, which you should go through before your first outing, should ensure the most even and powerful braking sensations possible, and also very quiet brakes in most conditions. Running-in allows the pads to heat and leave a thin layer of brake lining (the transfer layer) on the surface of the disk. This layer of brake lining improves braking efficiency.
    1. Choose a trail where you can ride at moderate speed. For your safety and the best results, stay seated on your saddle during running-in.
    2. Cycle at moderate speed, then brake firmly to reduce your speed till you are cycling at walking pace. Repeat this action twenty times.
    3. Next, cycle faster. Brake very firmly to reduce your speed to walking pace. Repeat ten times. Important: make sure you never block your wheels completely while running in your brake pads.
    4. Let your brakes cool down before your next outing.
    After running-in, your brakes should function quietly and at full power.
